Other Worlds was a non-profit organization co-founded in 2006 by author and activist Beverly Bell and Andy Lin. For over a decade, we documented and disseminated case studies on alternative economies around the world — communities living outside of a profits-over-people paradigm.
Our mission was simple: to show people that other worlds are possible. Not as abstract ideology, but as living, breathing reality — in worker-owned factories in Argentina, in Zapatista autonomous communities in Chiapas, in food sovereignty movements across the Americas, and in the everyday acts of communities protecting their land, water, and dignity against encroachment.
Other Worlds closed its doors in 2017. This archive preserves and makes publicly accessible the full body of work produced during those eleven years — articles, reports, photos, and videos — as a resource for organizers, researchers, scholars, and anyone seeking models and inspiration for building a more just world.
Co-founders
Beverly Bell is an author, activist, and longtime organizer who has worked alongside social movements in Haiti, Latin America, and across the United States. She is the author of Walking on Fire: Haitian Women's Stories of Survival and Resistance and Fault Lines: Views Across Haiti's Divide.
Andy Lin is a photographer and creative director based in New Orleans, and the founder of The Self-Portrait Project.
